Pick a Platter - La Fattoria

What started as a Sunday morning introduction and planning chat with our celebrant in a Willagee cafe, ended with a brilliant, lazy lunch in the hills.

She had officiated at a wedding at La Fattoria the day before and sang the praises of the little resto/winery.

So, always up for a challenge/new discovery/day out of the house, we went home, changed and headed for the, er, hills.

A short forty minutes later we were sitting at a gorgeous terrace table, see photo, with a vista straight out of Veneto laid out before us.

Surprisingly (not) the place was fully booked but being there very early, we snagged said beautiful table.

The main five course menu is not available on the terrace, so we ventured into the Pick a Platter option, a sort of picnic style experience. And it was a fab choice.

We chose Chisciol, northern Italian buckwheat pancakes, served with a rocket salad, Sfincione, a Sicilian mini pizza, and Sicilian Meatballs (Beef) with homemade sauce, all $8.70ea.

The second surprise of the day was the wines produced here, with a heavy homage to Italian grapes. Barbera, Nero d’avola, Sangiovese in the reds and Vermentino and Fiano scattered amongst the whites.

Luckily all of these wines are regulars on our table, but we could not pass up a glass of Vermentino and Fiano.

Lunch and wine arrived together, and paradise was complete.

La Fattoria is a must-visit for Autumn and Spring weather.

Bookings are absolutely essential and always ask for a table on the terrace but be quick, there are only six, but they seat eight easily.
