Fish with Spiced eggplant - Propeller

North Fremantle’s iconic Propeller has a special spot in our culinary hearts.

We watched it being built for quite some time from across the road at our staple Sunday hangout - Mrs Brown.

That was years ago, and we have been regulars at both, sometimes on the same day, for ages.

From day one Propeller pursued an inventive, and always surprising, North African\Moroccan\Mediterranean vibe with its menu.

Almost every dish on the menu is gluten free and/or vegan and all proteins areas are featured. The wine list is a foodie dream with drops from all over the globe.

So, after a fab lunch the day before at IL Lido we plonked on an outdoor table in this North Freo fave.

We decided on the iceberg, spring onion, cucumber, barberries ($14), heirloom tomatoes, goats curd, pomegranate dressing ($17) and the grilled fish with spiced eggplant relish ($36).

While we waited in the pleasant sunshine we kicked back with some vino - a Luis Canas Viura from Rioja ($13.5) for me whilst the Uber Blonde murdered a delicious Rose, also from Rioja ($14). Both were fab and perfectly chilled.

The food arrived and, as expected, it was superbly presented and prepared. We have eaten here dozens of times and the menu is becoming more seasonal - greens and tomatoes for slick summer dining and spicy warm dishes for the colder months.

Now I'm not a lettuce fan, Garum's brilliant cos lettuce salad being the exception, and I was unsure of the iceberg number we ordered.

But when it arrived, at room temperature my mind was changed. Tart from the spring onions and barberries, it was a great palate lifter for the tomatoes - which were divine.

The fish arrived and we both went straight for the previously unseen eggplant relish. Not the prettiest looking accompaniment but the flavour was pure Morocco. And it was a perfect match with the firm, lovely fish.

Another afternoon at Propeller, another fab dining experience. And true to form we headed across the street for a roader at Mrs Brown.

Perfect afternoon in North Fremantle - again.
