The Rechabite - instant cool...

The Rechabite - Northbridge | Welcome newcomer...

Green Mango & Papaya Salad+Son In Law Egg - The Rechabite

I always thought that the superb food offerings currently in William Street would be hard to top - then along comes Rechabite.

Nestled in Northbridges “Golden 200 metres” this instantly cool new space rubs shoulders, literally, with solid food venues including Bivouac, Shadow Wine bar and No Mafia.

With four levels of food, bars, performance spaces, and a rooftop bar, The Rechabite is a powerful competitor in Perth’s food scene.

The ground floor dining hall, Double Rainbow, is a 200-seat open plan area with mixed table options. Post-industrial decor meets art deco in the dining room, but all eyes are on the open kitchen, quietly and almost casually turning out dishes the likes of which I have never seen.

It’s a two-menu venue - a twelve item Brunch number and a larger, double sided, after 5pm offering. Both menus are replete with GF, V and vegan options and are so cheap it’s not funny. That said, the portions are moderate which is perfect for sharing multiple dishes.

The Brunch menu is just that - brekky sounding dishes, if Rice Porridge, Ginger, Fried Chicken, Green onion ($9) fits the bill for breaking your fast.

We ordered the Green Mango & Papaya, Son-in-Law eggs and peanuts ($12) dish to start. The wine and beverage list punches well above its weight with international whites and reds rubbing shoulders with some low brow locals.

We opted for an Italian Rossi & Riccardo Prosecco ($10) and took in the almost empty room. Smiling staff buzzed between the few occupied tables, peeps wandered in off the street, looked around then left. A typical Sunday in Northbridge.

The bubbles arrived with the food and both were superb. The salad was a perfect presentation of this Thai favourite - crisp, super fresh and spicy fruit pushing beautifully against the sweet and sour tamarind flavours of the fried boiled eggs. Brilliant food.

Following in quick succession were the Curried Beef, Scrambled Egg flatbread with Shallot and bean sprouts ($9), and the Chinese Bolognese, Roti Paratha and Fried Egg ($9).

We washed these fab plates with a Spanish white and an Italian Montepulciano.

Rechabite will be a force to reckon with in town and given it had only been open for 2 weeks when we visited in late November, it felt like it had been there forever.
